DBC Packaging dates back to the old Durban Bag Company which was founded in 1937, originally manufacturing hessian and cotton bags. From the mid-1970’s these fabric bags were eventually replaced by the new generation of woven polypropylene bags.
In 2001, the then management team acquired the “Wovens” operating division from Durban Bag Company, initially trading as DBC Wovens (Pty) LTD.
In 2004, DBC, strategically diversified into polyethylene film packaging products and duly set up a brand-new manufacturing plant, DBC Plastics. DBC Wovens continued to dominate as a national supplier to the fertilizer, milling, sugar and animal feed industries.
From very small beginnings, this new flexible plastics operation expanded beyond initial projections, to the extent that in 2007, the company acquired land in Riverhorse Valley and custom-built its own factory and offices. In 2012, DBC Packaging (Pty) LTD was formed, by converting the operating divisions into subsidiary operating companies.
The entire group now operates under one roof, except for the woven polypropylene manufacturing facilities which remains in Isithebe.
